It turns churn into progress, and abandonment into exclusivity. I don't buy narratives that conveniently launder negative metrics into positive ones. The forensic reality is messier. When active accounts decline while value concentrates, the network risks becoming a private consortium that happens to use blockchain vocabulary. That's a feature for the banks transacting on it. Stellar, XRPL's closest cousin, splits the difference with a stronger focus on accessible payments and digital identity. Tron has captured the stablecoin transfer market that XRPL once seemed destined to own, processing tens of billions in USDT volume daily. If high-value settlement is XRPL's niche, Tron is eating the retail stablecoin layer beneath it, building a moat in the exact segment XRPL is abandoning. This is not a winner-take-all market. XRPL can sustain its corridor, but it cannot claim success while retail-friendly competitors grow faster in adjacent lanes. There is also a narrative risk specific to this moment. Over the past year, the market has watched high-profile chains justify declining user activity by claiming they are pursuing institutional quality.
